After completing her secondary education at St. Augustine's College, Mrs. Genell K. Sands (nee Robinson) obtained an Associate of Arts Degree in History with Distinction from The College of the Bahamas in 1994. She also received the Outstanding Achievement in History Award and the Governor General Award for Academic Excellence, having earned the highest grade point average of her graduating class.
Mrs. Sands received a Bachelor of Laws Degree with Honours from the University of Leeds, England in 1997. In June, 1998 she achieved a grade of Very Competent on the Bar Vocational Course at the College of Law in London, England. She was also awarded the 4 Stone Buildings Prize for obtaining the highest results in the Civil Litigation examination. In July, 1998 Mrs. Sands was admitted to the Bar of England and Wales as a Member of the Honourable Society of Lincoln's Inn.
In September, 1998 she was enrolled as a Counsel and Attorney of the Supreme Court of the Commonwealth of the Bahamas. Mrs. Sands joined the law firm of McKinney, Bancroft & Hughes in 1998 as a litigation attorney. She is currently a Senior Associate of the firm. Mrs. Sands' practice areas are civil litigation and dispute resolution with particular expertise in insurance and personal injury litigation and employment law.
Mrs. Sands is a wife and the mother of two children. She is a member of the Board of Directors of the Ranfurly Home for Children and is committed to excellence in the academic and civic arenas.
